I can’t believe the day has finally come. I still feel like it’s 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and I am playing volleyball.
Another late-night victory for team EZ Pass! I have a bruised hip and a groggy mind this morning, but it was worth it.
Unlike my recent adventures into basketball, I actually have some experience playing volleyball. I played it in middle school and high school, and have played in a few fun leagues during and after college. (That’s me in the bottom right, and Abbey just two spots to my left! Go Brentwood High volleyball for life.)
Though I love running, one thing I wish the sport included more was the team aspect that I loved about volleyball.
Still, I’ve experienced a few moments with other runners where I felt like I was on a team again. When I run with the DC Road Runners, being around other runners during long runs encourages me and makes the experience more fun. When I trained for a marathon with Anthony, we also had some true bonding moments during training miles 20-23, just like a team of two, too. (Tutu?)
Anyways, what I’m getting at is that seeing people struggle, and struggling through something with them, brings you closer and helps you both carry on. And then you get that warm feeling in your heart afterwards.
Maybe that’s one reason I’m enjoying the group sessions at CrossFit these days, too? Another tough workout was written on the board today but we plowed through it.
Let’s end the work week with something beautiful. Even though arugula is my #1 lettuce, I changed it up with spinach this week.
Topped with gorgonzola — which I can’t decide whether I like better than bleu cheese — ….chicken, bell peppers, dried cranberries, and a few toasted walnuts. Dressed with straight-up balsamic vinegar.
So simple but so good!
- What sport did you play in high school?
- Gorgonzola vs. Bleu: go!
- Do you like team sports or individual sports?
- What’s your go-to salad dressing?
