nashville whiskey tour part I

Good morning! Let’s start with a whiskey tour. oak_bar_nashville_DSC0016Last night Anthony and I met up with our friends Tracee and Tony for a night out in Nashville. The weather has been so miserable in Nashville that a nice drink was needed! We met at Oak Bar to kick off the eve.oak_bar_nashville_DSC0014We chose Oak Bar because it’s swanky and listed on Thrillist’s list of the 8 top whiskey bars in Nashville. Side note: I don’t love whiskey, but I do love lists and random challenges so am suddenly a whiskey drinker.

After our first drink, we settled into the bar’s accompanying restaurant, Capitol Grill, for dinner. The restaurant is housed in the Hermitage Hotel, a historic Nashville spot built in the early 1900s.

To start: a farm salad with herby goat cheese, spiced pecans, carmelized pears, and a lemony vinaigrette. Yum.capitol_grill_nashville_DSC0020Anthony went for a rosemary-rubbed steak and I tackled this hearty burger. The burger was just okay — but the fries were delish!capitol_grill_nashville_DSC0021Capitol Grill was pretty good, but I don’t think we’ll rush back. Although the setting was gorgeous, we thought the food was just okay and a bit overpriced. We’ll be back for a cocktail at Oak Bar, though!

We considered getting dessert at the restaurant, but decided to go for a drinkable dessert at another one of Thrillist’s recommended whiskey bars instead. Because like I said, I’m a huge whiskey drinker now.

We settled at Holland House, which was as awesome as it was last time.holland_house_nashville_DSC0027Anthony and I shared some creation that had whiskey (duh), orange, and chocolate bitters. So strange, yet so delicious!_DSC0030Tracee and Tony were up for a final sip of whiskey, too._DSC0028Two bars down, six more to go! :) Thanks for the fun night, Tracee and Tony!

Oh yeah, this is a running blog. IMG_5098Thursdays are usually for track, but since it’s so dark out in the mornings now and I’ve seen some weird stuff happening at the track lately, I made a rule that I won’t go to track without Anthony. So I decided to take my workout to the dreadmill today instead. On the way home, the sun finally sort of came out?IMG_5091Lets hope it clears up by the weekend! If not I might just have to pour myself another glass of whiskey. Have a good one!

  1. I do all my speed workouts on the streets (some loop or out-n-back) so that I get some slight variety of terrain instead of just running circles on a perfectly flat surface. I think it’s really helped make me stronger. You might try that!
