running through Ljubljana

Time to wrap up our Europe trip! We had a very interesting ending to our journey home, but I’ll have to get to that in the next post. For now, let’s backtrack and cover 20 miles by foot in Ljubljana. _DSC0574For our second day in the city, I booked a running tour of the city! I stumbled across Miha’s Sight Running Ljubljana page before we came and immediately booked a tour. He was a great guide!

We met bright and early and headed out for a 15k (9.5 mile) tour of the city. Miha took through the city’s main square and river:0910150659Back through Tivoli park (where we jogged on the first day of our stay)0910150727Through the funkiest parts of town:09101507540910150753and to the top of the city’s focal point: the castle! The climb to the top was pretty steep — what a great way to test your fitness after two weeks of wine and cheese 😉IMG_20150910_074820We kept a nice and easy pace, stopping and walking multiple times to learn more about the sights and history of Ljubljana. We even jogged across this old Roman wall?!0910150709aThe tour ended atop Ljubljana’s tallest skyscraper (just in case you’re wondering, we ran to the building and then took an elevator to the top!).IMG_20150910_090918After weeks of travel, it felt so good to get a longer run in. Miha was an excellent guide and clearly knows his way around the city. Another experience I would highly recommend — even if you’re not a runner!0910150816As for the rest of our time in Slovenia, we enjoyed a appointment-free agenda and had plenty of time to run around and relax. After a busy week of sightseeing in Italy, it was a nice change of pace!_DSC0510Our third and last day in the city kicked off with a 6.5-mile journey around town and through the park…0911150823We didn’t really know where we were going on this route and were surprised that we only got slightly lost!0911150758eAnd how did our last day end? One last drink to celebrate our vacay.

And that was Europe! It was an awesome adventure and we’re glad to be home again. I’ll be back with America-style blogging starting tomorrow :)
