weekend recap

Hello! How was your weekend? We spent most of ours hanging out with Anthony’s family, who are all headed back to Australia! My sister-in-law + family left on Saturday and Anthony’s parents start their epic around-the-world flight back today. Before everyone left we had one last item to tick off the Nashville checklist: hot chicken. pepperfire hot chicken gallatin ave east nashville new locationPepperfire didn’t disappoint! I ordered my tenders “mild” and worked up a light sweat. The burn feels good.pepperfire-hot-chicken_DSC0394Other sweaty adventures of the weekend: A run!20160709_065622It’d been a loooong time since I met up with the PR Bandits for their weekend runs and I made a promise to myself that I will join them more this summer! Having a group made it easier for me to get out the door at 6 a.m.20160709_060452I made a new running buddy. Hi, Allison! 20160709_070548Eight miles felt just about right for me — the rest of the group was doing 14. (!!!) I kind of miss marathon training, but it’s nice to have the summer “off” :)20160709_071731Flash forward through a cold shower, nap, hours-long adventure at Nordstrom Rack (I’m addicted), and here we are at dinner!_DSC0399Anthony’s dad specializes in this sage pasta dish. Dressed in a light cream sauce and topped with squash! I made a kale salad on the side._DSC0401And Anthony was in charge of wine and cheese distribution. Tough job. _DSC0406And my last bit of exciting weekend news…. I started my own sourdough starter!!!homemade-sourdough-starter-yeast_DSC0408 Can’t wait to dig into the mystery of wild yeast, and bring you blog readers along for the ride :)

  1. I want to make a starter too! I have been looking at the King Arthur Flour website for recipes to get started.

    • i love KA, but i think most of their sourdough recipes call for you to use their packaged starter blend (obviously). i’m following the starter recipe from the kitchn, which only calls for normal flour and water. so far so good!

  2. I am nervous to try hot chicken! My weekend highlight was a pizza dinner with my husband…….low key after a BUSY day at work. I am taking the summer off from training for anything, but I do 8-10 miles at least every week and a half.

Side note: Have you been to Arrington Vineyards outside Franklin yet? Owned by Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn………….beautiful!

    • i think i went once, manyyy years ago! we drive by it all the time but haven’t stopped. need to go! and don’t be nervous about hot chicken! most places have plain or super mild if you don’t want the heat!

  3. Summer off–doing a lot of strength/HIIT training. I think I’m slightly burnt out on running and may need to take a break.

Highlight of my weekend–cherry cake and clafouti! Yum!
